Für die Abbildungen $f,g : \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}, \; f(x) = x+1\,$ und $\, g(x) = x^2$ gilt:

$\displaystyle (f \circ g)(x) = x^2+1 \;\not=\; (x+1)^2 = (g \circ f)(x).$

Die Verkettung dieser Funktionen ist also nicht kommutativ.
